UV Index & Skin Damage Calculator

Calculate your sun exposure risk based on current UV conditions and skin type

About UV Index & Skin Protection

The UV Index measures the strength of sunburn-producing ultraviolet radiation at a particular place and time. It was developed by the WHO and indicates the risk of overexposure to UV rays.

UV Index Scale:

  • 0-2 (Low): Minimal protection needed
  • 3-5 (Moderate): Protection recommended, especially during midday
  • 6-7 (High): Protection essential – seek shade during midday
  • 8-10 (Very High): Extra protection needed – avoid midday sun
  • 11+ (Extreme): Take all precautions – unprotected skin can burn quickly

Skin Type Classification:

The Fitzpatrick scale classifies skin types based on their response to UV exposure:

  • Type I-II: Highest risk – always or usually burns
  • Type III-IV: Moderate risk – sometimes or rarely burns
  • Type V-VI: Lowest risk – very rarely or never burns

Note: All skin types can develop skin cancer from UV exposure. This calculator provides estimates only.
